Maranatha
2nd Generation Choir

Maranatha 2nd Generation
Choir present the Kathie Hill musical, “Promise U.”
Maranatha 2nd Generation Choir
(M2G) is the second-born of three choirs of Maranatha Ministries. Comprised of 5th through 8th
graders drawn from many churches in the Fredericksburg area and surrounding
counties, we present anthem concerts and musical dramas at churches, public
events, shelters and retirement homes and perform in a weekend spring mini-tour
to another city in Virginia or a nearby state.
Choir members may also wish to participate in the 2G Sharps Handbell
Choir, performing introductions to most M2G concerts. M2G is open to young
people who support the choir’s mission, regardless of their individual beliefs,
as long as they conduct themselves appropriately. The choir year runs from September to June.

The Spirit Team cheers God’s Precious
Promises.
Placement interviews are conducted two evenings in June, and
2 evenings in August, otherwise by appointment.
Interviewees will sing a song of their choice, from memory, and scales
led by the director to determine their vocal scale.
Choir members pay $300 toward choir expenses. Choir provides weekly rehearsals, 10 to 15
concerts, 4 stage workshops and spring mini-tour, when choir budget is met.
Uniforms cost approximately $60, cost borne by the choir member’s family. Parents must participate in the choir’s
mission by actively working on one to two committees to support the choir’s
activities. All families chaperone
periodically throughout the year.
Voluntary fundraising events are conducted throughout the year to offset
individual obligations. To remain in the
choir, members must meet attendance obligations and outlined in the M2G
handbook and behave appropriately.

Anthem Concerts and musicals begin
with a hand bell presentation.
M2G seeks to present a Christian witness of music to both the
choir members and audiences: We seek to enhance the spiritual growth of choir
members, to provide them with quality musical training, and to advance the
acceptance and understanding of various beliefs, theologies and convictions
that are necessarily found in an interdenominational Christian organization.
Participation in M2G can be the beginning of a lifetime of ministering Christ’s
love to others.
The Directors:

Susan Cruse is the director of the vocal choir. She is a soloist within Fredericksburg
Baptist Church and the community. She
has 17 years of experience directing youth choirs of all ages. Her humble sweet spirit, combined with her
heart for God’s vision, puts feet to her personal mission statement, which is:
“He put a
new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and hear and put their trust in
the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3

Katie Miller, our Bell Choir Director, has many years of
experience in both choir and hand bells and presently sings in the
Fredericksburg Community Choir. Her
passion for youth and music is apparent in her work with Maranatha Second
Generation.
Manager

Gail Ford, our Choir Manager, has had three children in
M2G. She attends Fredericksburg Assembly
of God, sang in Maranatha Touring Choir in 1981, and Maranatha Gospel Choir in
2007-2008. She finds managing the choir
to be exciting and inspiring. She presently home schools the two children she
has remaining at home (of five.)

Maranatha Ministries’ History:
1)
In
1972, Maranatha Touring Choir
was established by the late Carroll P. Kelly and Mary Louise Kelly, along with
Carlton and Shirley Onderdonk, who continue to guide the choirs today. The Touring Choir, of high school and
college age young people, performs 20 to 25 concerts annually including
performances in other states for its annual summer tour. (Link to Touring Choir
website Maranathanotes.org)
2) In 1992, Maranatha 2nd Generation Choir was created for 5th
through 8th graders to minister to others about Christ. Although it
was begun for the younger siblings of Touring Choir members, it now serves
young people from all over the Fredericksburg area. M2G is a unique ministry that teaches young
people to care about and reach out to people who may not know Christ.
3)
In
spring of 2008, Maranatha Gospel
Choir performed its first public concert. This choir is comprised of adult former
Touring Choir and 2nd Generation members and their friends. Individuals interested in becoming part of
Maranatha Gospel Choir, regardless of past association with the ministry, are
eligible to become “friends” and, thus, members of Maranatha Gospel Choir. Rehearsals are monthly with 6 performances a
year.
Some
individuals have been members of all three choirs which comprise Maranatha
Ministries, and gone on to become Maranatha leaders, musicians or music
ministers. In this way, Maranatha 2nd
Generation can be the beginning of an individual’s lifetime ministry.
